So one week ago Mr. C and me did a very spontaneous trip to Milano to visit Fuorisalone. It’s happening during the official Salone Internazionale del Mobile and Mr. C kept talking about how cool the Fuorisalone is. And it was great indeed! It’s like the city is celebrating the Milan furniture fair with alternative exhibitions. But it’s not about furniture only but about design generally. It’s spread out in different parts of the city and you get to see so many unusual and beautiful things.
A lot of shops open on Sundays and present art and design of all kinds. Besides all the incredible things we saw, we strolled through Brera, our favourite area of Milano where we had drinks followed by a nice dinner at 10 Corso Como – which is a combination of bar, restaurant and shop.
On Sunday we focused on the area of Tortona where more design and installations were presented. Some were beautiful, some huge and impressive and some were just plain weird.
We finished by having a last ice cream back in Brera and visiting the Boffi showroom which probably is the most beautiful and well arranged showroom I’ve ever seen. They did a great job of combining modern design with old items like chairs and stools. Definitely a thing I want to pick up on in our new place.
Hey, I’ve had similar impression as you in Milan and I have also enjoyed more the city during those days and atmosphere as the fair itself (and yes, many of the image in photos I can recall). I wrote about fair itself here http://ninichissima.wordpress.com/2012/04/27/salone-del-mobile-or-alice-in-the-wonderland-part-ii/ and in Part I about the Fuori Saloni
